FAQ #1

Q: Is the products you use in and around my home safe?

A: All professional pest control products have been registered for use by the EPA. When they are applied according to label instructions by technicians who have been trained and licensed to use them, they pose virtually no risk.

Q: What should I look for in choosing a termite and pest control company?

A: There are a number of factors that may differentiate pest control companies from one another. Following are some general guidelines for choosing a pest control company:

  • Look for a reputable company with representatives knowledgeable about pest and/or termite habits, types of construction, treatment specifications and state regulations.
  • Ask friends and associates to recommend companies they have used.
  • Look for memberships in industry associations such as the Virginia Pest Management Association (VPMA) or the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) that provide ethical guidelines and technical information.
  • Find out if continued coverage is offered that includes treatment for re-infestation. Be certain the company is licensed by your state’s regulatory agency.

Q: Why do I need a pest control professional?

A: The pest management professional relies on pesticide application as just one part of a total pest management program. The untrained consumer, who purchases a pesticide over-the-counter, can only make an intuitive judgment on how to properly apply the pesticide. However, the professional pest management technician relies on training, expertise and more sophisticated techniques to manage pests in an environmentally friendly manner.

Q: If you hire a pest control professional (often known as an exterminator), are you guaranteed a pest-free home?

A: Pest control companies differ in their guarantees. If a guarantee is given, know what it covers, how long it lasts, what you must do to keep it in force, and what kind of continuing prevention and management are necessary. It is important that homeowners remain active participants before, during and after all pest control treatments. This type of vigilance helps the homeowner better understand their contract and possible guarantee, and helps the pest professional (exterminator) understand the homeowner’s expectations.

Q: Why do I need to have my home inspected before you can give me a price?

A: No two homes or pest problems are exactly alike and neither are their treatments. That’s why we thoroughly inspect your home – inside and outside. We then design a program customized for your situation.

Q: Does the interior of my home need to be treated?

A: No! Not every time. Most insects can be controlled by a good exterior pest service on a routine basis. Unfortunately, some insects don’t come from the outside or they have already established nests inside your home. In these cases some type of product will need to be used inside depending on the problem. Good news is, the product can be applied only where the problem is, eliminating unnecessary applications in non problem areas.
